Effective date: 3 September 2026
1. Introduction
iHostels ("we", "us", or "our") helps users discover student accommodation and related services. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices available to you.
2. Information we collect
- Account information such as your name, email address, role, and profile details.
- Information you submit in enquiries, listings, roommate profiles, marketplace posts, messages, bookings, or support requests.
- Technical information such as IP address, browser and device information, and activity logs.
- Authentication information supplied by Google when you choose Sign in with Google.
3. Google user data
If you sign in with Google, we receive only the basic account information you authorize Google to share, such as your name, email address, profile image, and Google account identifier. We use it to create or authenticate your iHostels account and provide account-related features.
We do not sell Google user data or use it for advertising. Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
4. How we use information
- Provide, maintain, secure, and improve iHostels.
- Create accounts, authenticate users, and prevent fraud or misuse.
- Display content you choose to publish and enable relevant user interactions.
- Process enquiries, booking requests, messages, and support requests.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
5. How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We may share information with providers that help us host, secure, and operate iHostels; with other users when you intentionally publish or share content; when required by law; or when necessary to protect users and the service. Providers may process information only to perform services for us.
6. Retention and security
We retain personal information only as long as necessary to provide iHostels, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, but no internet transmission or storage system is completely secure.
7. Your choices and rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information, subject to applicable law. You can permanently delete your account and associated data from the Password section of your profile, or contact us for help. You can also revoke iHostels access through your Google Account security settings; revoking access alone does not automatically delete information already provided to us.
8. Children's privacy
iHostels is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our service or legal obligations change. We will publish the revised policy here and update its effective date.
